What is stereo?




There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

DUAL 1010 A

Auto/Standard Turntable for single play and changer operation.
The ingenious design of the top/mounting spring screws makes it possible for you to mount and secure the Dual 1010 to its base - or to the cutout mounting board of a console -  entirely from the top. No need to fumble underneath, nor to take anything apart.
The Dual 10101 tonearm is designed for tracking at the low stylus forces required by high compliance cartridges. Once adjusted for your cartridge, the force will remain highly linear for a complete stack of records. Stsylus force is adjusted by turning the knob located at the pivot; clockwise to increase force, counterclockwise to reduce force. The range of adjustment is from 2 to 7 grams, with clock stops at 1/2 gram increments.
The tonearm has been set to descend accurately into the lead-in groove. But if the dimensions of your cartridge and/or the location of its stylus cause the lattere to touch the record either too far in or too far out, it can be adjusted quite easily.

All the operations of the Dual 1010 are activated by smoothly acting slide switches. Unlike push buttons, they do not jar the spring-mounted chassis or induce even momentary vibration. Thus the three spring-mounted footings of the Dual can enjoy a softer, more shock-absorbent characteristic, rather than a compromised stiffness.

DUAL 1010 F

The Dual 1010 F in all the functions is similar like model 1010 A, but  in addition is equipped in function of variable speed control.
Pitch Control - each of the 3 standard records speeds (33-1/3, 45 and 78 rpm) may be varied up to 6% by means of pitch control. The selected speed may be checked using the stroboscopic disc supplied with the unit.
How to use?
Place the stroboscopic disc on the rotating platter. Under AG illumination, the circular line patern for the desired speed will appear stationary - while the record is turning - when the actual platter speed matches the desired speed. The pitch control knob serves for making the exact adjustment.

Also the 1010F is equipped with Dual Stereo crystal cartridge CDS 630, duplo sapphire needle.



BSR UA 70

 The BSR UA70 record changers will play a stack of one to six records in automatic sequence and shut off after playing the last record. 16, 33-1/3, 45 and 78 RPM records can be played.

Indexing, correct tone arm set-down, for playing 12", 10" or 7" records is determinated by the position of the 12, 10, 7 control.
The tripping method is the velocity type. Rapid tone arm acceleration is required to actuate the trip mechanism.
The changer operates on 117 V AC, 60 Hz with provisions made for converting to 220 V AC operation and 50 Hz operation. The motor leads can be connected as shown in diagram, on the motor, for operation on 220 V AC.  A simple conversion kit for changing to 50 Hz operation is available.
The BSR model UA70 is equipped with a pickup cartridge and tone arm head combined in a single unit.

Dynaudio Confidence 3


As great truths are wont to do, the Confidence 3 is discrete about its qualities. We all know of much, much bigger loudspeakers 49.5 x 22.5 x 33.5 cm won't even impress a dwarf in very flat shoes - one of the reasons why the Confidence 3 has its personal dedicated stand). Or speakers with even more wallop (die-hard heavy metal fans will probably put on an aloof smile - at least until you turn the volume knob a little clockwise).But if true musical worth is what you're after, the Confidence 3 is in a class of its own. The tweeter is a special version of our justly famous Esotar T-330 D, which combines absolute brilliance with ultimate musicality - without the least bit of hardness. (You probably knew how it looks without realising it: the most reputed speakers in the world tend to be designed around this tweeter, a laudable step in the right direction.) With its ferrofluid-damped resonance and an aluminium voice coil which is lighter than a feather, it is not only at the outer frontier of the technologically feasible. It also puts an end to all diffuseness and tonal colouration.

Not in the least because the backwards-radiated energy of the Esotar (a democratic 50%), thanks to damping measures calculated by our famously reliable Danish engineers on high speed computers, is almost completely absorbed.

Which makes the Confidence 3 one of the few speakers that do not distract you with their own echo.

 Meridian 207-Pro, why separate boxes?
It is no accident that the 207-Pro is arranged in two parts. One contains the precision-engineered motrised CD transport system and the system power supplies. The CD transport carries the single-beam laser pick-up assembly in a sprung die-cast subchassis, and runs on precision stainless steel guides. The assembly moves out at the touch of a switch on the front panel. This whole mechanism is housed in a heavy aluminium tube and when the plate-glass door slides shut against its soft surround, the spinning Compact Disc is acoustically and mechanically isolated. Solid State Intergrated Amplifier
A tremendous amount of time and energy was spent to achieve excellent tonal quality through unique and innovative circuit design. That combined with sophisicated styling makes these units beautiful to the ear and eye.

The power amplifier section is a whole-stage direct-coupled OCL system and the output stage is pure complementary. The differential amplifier circuit is composed of 2 stages to ensure DC stability throughout the entire power amplifier section.
Selected transistors are used especially at the 1st differential stage which have high treble cut-off frequency and large collector output capacity. At the same time, the pre-driver stage is driven by constant current so that crossover distortion triggered by class "B" operation of the output stage is suppressed. This is a technical feature common to all current Luc amplifiers as crossover distortion could impair sound quality and should be minimized.

An important feature of the pre-amplifier section is the equalizer circuit wherein the same basic circuit as the C-1000 control center is used. The operation amplifier is composed of a special IC which inherently has high loop gain and the closest frequency to that of the RIAA equalizer,, which ensures unconditional stability and overall improvement of various characteristics such as distortion, etc, throughout the entire bandwidth with sufficient amount of negative feedback.

The buffer amplifiers incorporate an orthodox 2-stage direct-coupled circuit and also LUX's well known NF (Negative Feedback) type potentiometers for the tone controls. The turn-over (roll-off) frequency for tone control is interchangeable in 2 steps with a useful "defeat" position.
We know the true measurements of minimum performance standards of a quality amplifier must be of a very high level. However, these figures are not the only requirements.

Despite every effort to make amplifier design a pure science one amplifier among many with similar absolute specification can still have, relatively, far better sound quality.
The reson there are more comprehensive theories of amplifier design which account for such problems as harmonic intermodulation, and notch distortion, stbility, filters, and equalization as they relate to statements of power.
Whatever the scientific theory, Lux conducts the most detailed listening test with engineers and musicians in different fields from what is considered good in article.

A new receiver from Lux with optimum cost/performance ratio. An exhaustive review of current circuitry and functions in receivers has made it possible to achieve greater simplicity whilsst still retaining the features indispensable to real High Fidelity. Power output 30W/channel into 8 ohms both channels driven with 0,05% total harmonic distortion.

Pre-Amp Section
Sound playback is possible from any of the FM, MW, Phono and Auxiliary terminals. A 2-stage direct coupled amp in the equalizer circuitry with PNP and NPN transistors gives good linearity and high input voltage at phono. Versatile contouring of the reproduced sound is possible with Lux's exclusive NF type tone control for bass and treble. High- and low-cut filters are useful to renmove tape-hiss disc noise and turntable rumble. A loudness control offers effective tonal compensation at low-level listening.

Main Amp Section
The direct coupled DC output configuration ensures the best possible bass and transient response and gives the amplifier excellent characteristics throughout. Today's almost mandatory full complementary symmetric output attains the least possible distortion, i.e.0,05% up to 30 W both channels driven into 8 ohms.

 FM Section
The front-end features a high grade 3-gang tuning capacitor to provide a satisfactory sensitivity at 2 µV, and 2 pairs of linear phase ceramic filter ensures good bandpass response. The superb figures provided by the PLL MPX IC in respect of distortion, separation and Signal-to-Noise will remain constant over a long period of time.
AM Section
A newly developed IC for AM reception makes it possible to obtain high sensitivity, low distortion and strong AGC, and the adoption of a ceramic filter of good selectivity ensures clean AM broad casting without interference, thus most AM stations become far more "listenable".

Pioneer SX-434

There is a wide range of Pioneer stereo receivers to satisfy the needs and demands of virtually every audio fan. One of the latest, the SX-434, is specifically designed for those who insist on low distortion but who feel that paying for power they don't need is wasteful. The SX-434 has more than enough power, yet is priced to appeal to budget-conscious music lovers. Its FM section provides an excellent 1,9 µV sensitivity (IHF), a capture ratio of 1,0 dB (IHF) selectivity of 60 dB (IHF), and superb stereo separation of more than 30 dB over a 50 to 10,000 Hz range. Advanced electronic circuitry throughout includes a low-noise FET and a frequency-linear 3-gang variable capacitor in the FM front end, exclusive IC and phase-linear ceramic filters in the FM IF section and more. The phono equalizer in the SX-434 is high-fidelity all the way, with RIAA equalization of less than ±1 dB deviation. The power amplifier circuitry is the pure complementary direct-coupled OCL type with wide response and power bandwidth. The SX-434 produces 15 W + 15 W continuous RMS power (both channels driven at 8 Ω) with harmonic distrotion of less than 0,8% over 40 to 20,000 Hz bandwidth. This is enough to drive two pairs of stereo speaker systems individually or simultaneously.

Precise RIAA Equalization
The two-stage direct-coupled NF (Negative Feedback) design of the phono equalizer in the SX-434 enables audio reproduction of records within ±1 dB deviation from the RIAA characteristic curve.
Click-Stop Tone Controls
The bass and Treble tone controls are the click-stop type for convenience in adjustment.
Other Features
The control capabilities of the SX-434 are ideal for the average hi-fi set-up; it handles a turntable, tape deck, microphone, Aux and has an output jack for stereo headphone. The provided loudness contour switch enhances frequency response at low-volume levels.
