Ask any true audiophile and you'll be told that Dahlquist's legendary DQ-10 influenced a whole generation of loudspeakers. It showed a whole generation of engineers that some of the classic problems in loudspeaker design could be solved. For the first time, a multi-way dynamic system eliminated the "boxy" sound that had plagued speakers. It did this by controlling diffraction (the delayed emission of sound from cabinet edges and surface discontinuities near each speaker driver) and by virtually eliminating the box. The DQ-10 made an enormous impact when it was offered to an eager public and remained the system of choice for 14 years. Today, the DQ-10 has been succeeded by the DQ-20 which represents the choice for music lovers who insist on having the best there is.. Now, Dahlquist offers a series of audiophile-quality loudspeaker systems at modest price, making Dahlquist performance available to many more music lovers.
The Problem
Speaker systems confined to enclosures have essentially been compromises between high efficiency with wide dynamic range on one hand and smooth, linear, low coloration on the other. Sadly, the latter required a sacrifice of dynamic range and efficiency.
The Dahlquist Solution
The Dahlquist M Series ends the need to compromise. Originally designed for recording and broadcast studios, new techniques now make it possible to offer several models for home use. In the Dahlquist tradition, the M Series solves many of the problems that still plague other speaker systems.
The Dahlquist M Series loudspeakers are the first fully enclosed systems to reproduce all the of the subtle, low level details of the music in the midst of extremely high level music signals. The reproduction of such dynamic shadings makes music come startlingly alive.
The Dahlquist M907
The M907 is a unique blend of technologies. This three-way system has the Dahlquist Un-Box enclosure and critically matched loudspeaker drivers, as do the other members of the M Series. But, in an exciting departure, the M907's specially designed midrange driver shares the cylindrical loading originally developed for the DQ-20. as a result, the M907 not only gives the listener superb performance over a wider range of frequencies, it gives an extra measure of performance in the critical midrange, where most of the music "happenes".
But, the M907 doesn't stop there, it recreates the original positions of the musical instruments with exceptional fidelity. Further, the M907's reproduction of soundstage height, width, and depth draws the listener into the performance. These exceptional capabilities are apparent as life-sized images in space. If a first audition suggests a traditional low-efficiency design, don't be foolded. Experienced and demanding listeners are surprised by the way the M907 delivers all of the music's dynamic shading when driven with even a medium-powered amplifier or receiver.
And it still doesn't stop.
One of the hallmarks of Dahlquist loudspeakers is the coherency of the total sound. The M907's three drivers blend together seamlessly. As a result, harmonic relationship are accurately preserved. Individual instruments, and especially the human voice, retain their own distinct characters.
Naturally, as is expected from a Dahlquist loudspeaker system, the M907 incorporates an advanced and remarkable anti-diffraction technique which enhances accurate stereo imaging and greatly contributes to open, spacious and accurate sound reproduction.
