What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Pioneer SX-2500 receiver

Auto-tuning , solid state AM/FM stereo receiver.

The AM/FM auto-tuning feature of this outstanding receiver is really convenient - one touch of the button sends the tuning needle on to the next station, where it will lock onto the signal with uncanny accuracy. It's a center-tuning system exclusive with Pioneer. Another convenient feature is the remote control unit for auto-tuning and volume control, operable up to 7 meters. With a tremendous 340 watts of power, the SX-2500 can drive any type of speaker system easily, even low-efficiency designs. The tuner employs 5 ICs and 2 crystal filters to ensure an excellent sensitivity of 1,6 µV, bringing in even weak or distant stations clearly. All in all the very advanced technology and finest quality parts of the SX-2500 make it Pioneer's top-of-the-line stereophonic receiver.

Convenient and precise Auto-Tuning servo-mechanism system

Just touch the button and the tuning needle will travel along the dial, lighting up and stopping precisely at the next station, with the help of a center-tuning meter and servomechanism, exactly where the signal is strongest. When the needle reaches the end of the dial scale, it will "turn around" automatically.

The biggest problem in auto-tuning systems has always been in centering the needle accurately. In conventional systems, the inertia of the needle motor carries it a bit beyond the exact spot, but in the SX-2500 Pioneer has solved the problem electronically with the servo-mechanism, and the needle is neither slightly to the right of left of the correct position - it's right on. The discriminator supplies a point "0", and the needle locks onto this "0" position precisely and almost instantaneously. This auto-tuning, center-tuning system is the only truly accurate one, and it's exclusive with Pioneer. When the needle moves inn the auto-tuning mode, the muting switch turns on automatically to cut out inter-station noise.
