What is stereo?




There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Garrard SLX-2 turntable

 

Growing up these days means growing up with sound. And now, more than ever before, people can grow at their own pace in their listening interests and the equipment they listen to. Many excellent "growth" systems need a fine record playing source but have gone without one of sufficient calibre because the cost was prohibitive.

Garrard has changed all this with the SLX-2 Automatic Turntable Module that strikes more than a happy medium in quality at an equally happy cost. All the basics of our best machines are here, including Garrard's exclusive Synchro-Lab Motor, for synchronous power, to guarantee perfectly constant record speed whatever the voltage or operating conditions. And the sleek tubular aluminum tonearm beautifully pivoted on precision ball bearings. There's a built-in calibrated gauge for correct stylus pressure setting, and an adjustable counterweight for perfect balance and tracking without distortion. The single lever cueing/pause control that gently raises and lowers the tonearm, protects the grooves and the stylus. Then there are all the operating conveniences, oversized turntable, single control for setting speed and record size, separate spindles for automatic and manual play, the unique swingaway overarm for unobstructed single record handling, the premounted coordinated base with convenient spindle storage compartments, and the versatile 3-position dust cover of heavy tinted styrene.

To top it off - a specially selected pre-installed magnetic cartridge with high compliance diamond stylus assembly makes the SLX-2 ready to plug in and play superbly through any high fidelity receiver.
