What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Kenwood TK-140X receiver

IC-FET-Solid State AM/FM Stereo Receiver

A delectable treat for the sagacious sound connoisseur; the ineffable TK-140X

Kenwood's superior sensitivity and astonishing selectivity starts with 3 FET's 4-gang tuning condenser, 4 ICs IF circuit super sensitive front-end. Sensitivity of the TK-140X is a remarkable 1,7 microvolt - but even more important is Kenwood's selectivity, especially in major metropolitan areas. Where there are two FM stations on the same frequency, a mere 1 dB difference is all that is necessary for the TK-140X to capture one station and utterly reject the other.

The abundant power  - 200 watts - of the TK-140X permits you to drive the least efficient speaker systems with ample power to spare, (in fact, the Kenwood TK-140X gives you two sets of stereo speaker outputs, plus stereo headphone jack.)

But most important is the way the TK-140X reproduces music. Every delicate little tone, every subtle note, every nuance of the original sound is clean, pure, crisp and transparent.

New Luminous-Dial

The dial of the Kenwood TK-140X is new. Even the large tuning meter with stereo indicator is new. When the set is on, the dial illuminates in a beautiful blue hue, with every FM and AM frequency clearly visible. Turn the set off, and all the numbers disappear leaving an elegant opaque decorator panel.

200 Watts Undistorted Music Power

Kenwood invites comparison of the TK-140X's power amplifier output characteristics against those of any other stereo tuner-amplifier. The figures should speak for themselves in the TK-140X's favor. It delivers 200 watts in music power at 4 ; 170 watts at 8 , IHF standard. Also in terms of continuous power: 80watts/80 watts at 4 ohms; 60 watts/60 watts at 8 ohms. Distortion factor at rated output; less than 0,5%. Power bandwidth: 15 Hz to 30,000 Hz. These superior specifications are the result of special complementary Darlington circuits and heavy duty silicon transistors, both in its driver and power amplifiers. These silicon transistors also assure long lasting, excellent performance.

FET, Supersensitive Front End

The TK-140X boasts an FM Front End that also vies comparison with the most expensive FM Tuners. Take the 3 FET used in two stages of RF amplification, and the Mixer. Also the 4-gang variable capacitor, and stable oscilator, (Frequency drift within 0,015% over temperature variations between -10 to 50 Centigrade). They all add up to a super-sensitive, distortion-free FM front end with selectivity characteristics that are hard to beat. Sensitivity (IHF): 1,7 µV. Image Rejection, Cross Modulation, IF Rejection; all better than 100 dB. Alternate Channel Selectivity: 45 dB. T.H.D. less than 0,5% at 400 Hz, 100% modulated signal.

The TK-140X has an FM antenna coupling transformer which provides perfect matching at its 75 . Input for single wire or coaxial cable antenna leading, or at its 300 . Input for parallel feeder lines. This eliminates any possibility of line-to-tuner coupling losses due to impedance mismatch.

New Integrated Circuits

Use of new , high-gain Integrated Circuits (IC) in all 4 IF Amplifiers has permitted the TK-140X's Limiter Circuit to react to extremely minute input voltages. This has LED to the exceptional Signal-to-Noise Ratio of better than 65 dB and an FM Capture Ratio of 1,0 dB. This means that where there are two FM stations on the same frequency, a mere 1 dB difference is all that's necessary to capture one station and utterly reject the other.

Kenwood KR-6170 receiver

Jumbo Stereo Receiver KR-6170

High fidelity, to most people, still means authentic reproduction of broadcast or pre-recorded sound. A sophisticated electronic device for increasing one's listening pleasure. Advent of Kenwood's epoch-making KR-6170 Jumbo Stereo Receiver, however, has completely changed this concept. Stereo today is for playing as well as for listening. A completely new field of stereo enjoyment. Play or practice your favourite musical instrument to the accompaniment of Electronic Rhythm Composer which produces 12 different rhythms. Five electronic percussions are also at your beck and call. It can make your party. But that's not why it's a Jumbo

KR-6170 is also equipped with Reverberation Unit; Echo-Sound Output terminals for 4-channel reproduction; 4-sets of speaker terminals (A, B, C, D and any combination0; 2-Hour Timer for automatic shut-off; 2 jacks for both Guitar and Microphone (with Mike-Mixing Volume Control); 2 pairs of tape Monitor circuits; Foot-Start Switch for Rhythm Composer and Dynamic Mike; etc.

SAEC WE-506/30 tonearm

Concealed Double Knife Edge Precision System

The double knife edge system is the heart of this tone arm

Highly rigid knife edges facing up and knife edges facing down result in precise signal recovery with distortion free and eliminating vibration of tone arm.

The arm pipe itself is constructed of a special light alloy, a by-product of French aeronautical technology. The patent Double Knife Edge design along with such refinements as our high-purity, high-density headshell and a unique mechanism for gradually increasing tracking force toward the center of a record, make possible unprecedented tracking ability at very low stylus pressure, remarkably improved clarity of reproduction, lower distortion in the high range, greater dynamic range, reduced scratch and hysteresis noise and the virtual elimination of needle-talk. Moreover, at the first resonant frequency, crosstalk is improved by approximately 20 dB, depending on the efficiency of the cartridge in use.

SAEC WS-308 tonearm

SAEC - Sound of Audio Engineering Corp - Tone Arm

The SAEC's remarkable approach toward the perfection of disc sound is crystallized in the SAEC WE-308's unique construction, the Double Knife Edge. This newer construction covers up disadvantages of conventional knife edge type tonearms. The Double Knife Edge provides the lowest friction and high sensitive movement of the tonearm ever achieved. Therefore, the SAEC WE-308 with any advanced current cartridge tracks the record grove with less distortion than ever and reproduces clear directionality, pinpoint placement of instruments and phenomenal cleanness of the disc sound.
