What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

SAE 3200 FM tuner

FM Digital Tuner

The SAE 3200 FM Digital Tuner offers the benefits of the latest circuit design while drawing upon the linear and digital technology developed for SAE's other superb FM tuner, the 8000. many of the features synonymous with SAE are present on the 3200; the precision tuning accuracy of a crystal-controlled digital readout; the low distortion and wide separation obtained with linear phase filters; the smooth, effect of side-skirt controlled muting. These features combine with others unique to 3200; precision 10-turn tuning potentiometer and varactor front-end for accurate tuning and excellent rejection of unwanted stations, direct reading LED displays for signal-strength and center-tuning. The resulting superior performance and unique simplicity of operation make the 3200 another Component for the Connoisseur.

Features

Electronic Front-End

This unique 4-section varactor front-end and its associated 10-turn tuning control potentiometer provides spurious response rejection of over 80 dB and IHF sensitivity of 10,3 dBf (1,8 µV)

LED Signal Strength and Center Tuning

The 5 section LED signal strength display indicates the actual signal strength received by the tuner. The 3 section LED center tuning displays center of station. When used in conjunction with the signal strength display they provide precise information necessary for proper tuning.

FM Muting

A unique side-skirt muting circuit eliminates off-channel interference and muting is "thump-free" due to stereo audio attenuators.

Antenna Inputs

Careful attention is paid to antenna termination to ensure the best signal reception possible. Inputs are provided for 300  flat lead and a special input for 75  coaxial cable.

Phase-Lock-Loop-Multiplex

This circuit is used in the reception of FM stereo, automatically locking the phase of the internal multiplex subcarrier oscillator to the incoming signal. This internal signal oscillator is not susceptible to transmission noise and has less intermodulation distortion products then the broadcasted subcarrier.

Digital Frequency Readout

Utilizing the latest LSI (Large Scale Integration) technology, four 7-segmented ruby LED's and crystal reference control the 3200 readout displays the exact station frequency, accurate to within 0,025% of the station frequency.

Linear Phase Filters

Sonically pure FM stereo requires that all signal components required for stereo must remain time aligned (in-phase). Since these components must pass through the IF filters to strip them of unwanted noise and distortion it is imperative that these filters have as little phase shift as possible. Our permanently aligned monolithic linear phase filters ensure exactly that.

SAE 2200 power amplifier

Stereo Power Amplifier

The new SAE2200 Power Amplifier achieves the ultimate. It combines performance and value with aesthetic balance and beauty. Delivering 100 watts rms/channel from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at less than 0,05% Total Harmonic Distortion, the 2200 shares the SAE engineering heritage which includes fully complementary circuitry, high slew rate and low transient distortion. The 2200 package also includes a 15 LED/channel power display which instantly indicates the amount of power being delivered to your speakers, and because of the quality of material and components that go into every SAE, the 200 offers a Free transferable 5 year Service Contract.

Fully Complementary Circuitry

The 2200 is completely balenced from input to output utilizing full complementary dual-differential inputs, full complementary drivers and full complementary output stages. This design approach offers inherently low steady-state or transient distortion while assuring accurate reproduction of complex musical waveforms.

LED Power Display

This display can instantly inform you of the power output to your speakers, channel imbalance and other information pertinent to the proper performance of your system. Utilizing 15 light Emitting Diodes per channel the amplifier's average power (peak responding) is constantly displayed from 20 mW to full rated power. Amplifier overload is also indicated. The circuit is analog in nature and displays power output in 3 dB increments over its full range, making it the most accurate indicator of its type available in the industry today.

Amplifier Protection

Three means of circuit protection are included in the 2200;

-A VI limiter which senses load impedance below 2  without being affected by reactive loads (i.e. electrostatic speakers) which are rated at 4  or greater

-A thermal cutout device shuts down the amplifier should the heatsink reach an abnormal high temperature

-An AC line fuse for overall protection

Loudspeaker Protection

Should subsonic pulses or ±DC Voltages, which could damage your speakers, appear at the amplifiers outputs, a relay circuit will automatically disconnect the speakers from the amplifier. The circuit is also used during turn-on/off to prevent annoying transients. This relay circuit incorporates many features unique to SAE products, the most important of which alleviates high frequency distortion developed by the relay due to "contact diode effect"

Plug-in Board Design

Easily accessible input-drive, relay-power, and meter boards make the 2200 consistent in performance from one amplifier to another in production, and simple to service.

Monocoque Construction

Utilizing technology developed in our other amplifier designs, the 2200 mechanical package is constructed in the form of a box, offering structural rigidity and integrity, plus high strength to weight coefficient,

Premium materials

Only the finest materials have been used in the construction of the 2200. among the components used you will 5% carbon deposit resistors throughout, military grade glass-epoxy circuit boards and high-grain iron-ore laminations in the transformer. These efforts to use quality materials throughout insures that the 2200 will deliver superior performance and reliability in any application.

Precision Construction

No effort has been spared in taking these raw materials to manufacture the highest grade audio components available. It was because of this goal that our 36,000 sq,ft, primary production facility was built. This plant was designed exclusively for the manufacture and assembly of audio components. Further, critical parts unique to SAE products, such as metal work, toroid inductors and circuit boards are produced at our facilities. As a testimonial to SAE thoroughness, our metal shop fabricates all parts with a tolerance of 0,005 in (,013 cm) for proper fit. All front panels are hand brushed for proper aesthetic appearance, and all aluminum parts are mil-spec anodized for long life and easy upkeep. This attention to detail is the hallmark of SAE Components.

Pioneer PL-540 turntable

Auto-Return Quartz-PLL DC Direct-Drive Turntable

Now that you know to look for in a turntable, look at the PL-540 from Pioneer. If you've ever owned a good manual single-play turntable without automatic return, you know how desirable the latter can be - if only it doesn't compromise tone arm sensitivity.

The auto-return system in the Pl-540 doesn't harm sensitivity. If you've ever wished your turntable had the accuracy of a professional studio type - but without a studio-standard high price. The DC Hall motor and Quartz -PLL in the PL-540 deliver the same accuracy - 0,025% or less wow and fluter - as monitor turntables used in record-cutting studios. But its price is considerably less. If you've suspected that the boxy cabinet and shaky little feel on yesterday's best turntable are not  enough to be called "best" today, and if the latest improvements in tone arm suspension and platter design have set you thinking about replacing your favorite noisy old faithful; look at the Pioneer Pl-540.  And as you do, remember to ask for an audition of its superb tonal quality. Your ears will see that it's the turntable you've been listening for.

Our Own Quartz-PLL Servosystem

There are 200 evenly-spaced magnetic "bits" on the bottom of the rotor of the DC motor, and each has two poles; the north pole of one is opposite the south pole of the next, and so on. Then positioned below is a circular circuit board on which is a printed coil with 200 poles. A current proportional to the actual speed of the direct-drive motor is generated in the coil circuit as the magnets rotate above, and that current is sent to the PLL or Phase-Locked Loop circuit and Sampling & Hold Circuit in the servo. There phase is compared with that of an ultra-accurate reference signal from the built-in Quartz oscillator. Differences in phase if any, are converted into control voltages which in turn "tell" the motor to speed up  or slow down to achieve absolutely accurate rotational accuracy in far less time than it takes your eye or ear even to begin to detect even the slightest error.

Pioneer PL-520 turntable

Dual-Motor Direct-Drive Full Automatic Turntable with Brushless DC Servo and Front-Control Design, Low Howling

Precision mechanisms. Precision speed control. Pioneer has combined the best of both in a turntable which, not surprisingly, delivers precision performance. What will surprise you, pleasantly, is the price. Where elaborate, costly devices in other turntables are needed to drive the platter and the arm from one motor, we use independent motors for each and save the expense. Where uncomfortably bulky cabinets are used by other manufacturers to disguise internal vibrations and shut out howling, we use a high-mass base and wrap-around SPC steel plate to achieve good looks and the highest anti-howling characteristics of any competing model. On the PL-520, all controls for the fully automatic/manual operations and speed adjustment are up front, outside the dust cover. On the PL-520, a newly-designed Pioneer tone arm with direct stylus pressure adjustment and special anti-resonance features ensures precision performance where it counts most.

PL-520 Features

Brushless DC Servomotor with Hall Elements

The PL-520 incorporates a high-precision phonomotor combining control circuitry composed of semiconductors with Hall elements in the brushless DC motor. The speed of the platter is smooth since the Hall elements guarantee accurate position detection and the motor's winding current is controlled by transistors. Another feature is the high inertia platter. Altogether, these attractive features make for a Signal-to-Noise Ratio of more than 73 dB (DIN-B) and wow and flutter of less than 0,03% (WRMS).

Two-motor, Full-automatic Turntable with Precision Geared Motor Mechanism

The lead-in and return of the tonearm are performed by a special precision geared motor mechanism which does not affect the speed of the platter at all. Furthermore, a speed detection-type auto-return mechanism controls the tonearm for accurate and stable operation every time it is returned to the arm rest.

Switches and Controls are Located at the Front for Easy Operation

The two-speed fine-adjustment knob for adjusting the speed of the platter, the push-button speed selector switch, the size selector for selecting the size of the records, the stop button, repeat button and start button are all located on the front panel. This means that you don't have to lift the dust cover every time you want to make an adjustment. It also means that it is much easier to use this turntable on a shelf or audio rack.

High-sensitivity Tonearm with Excellent Trackability.

The newly developed, high-sensitivity S-shaped tonearm comes with built-in lateral balance and anti-skating mechanisms and it displays excellent tracking performance with a light tracking force cartridge. There is a separate tracking force weight in front so that you can easily change the tracking force even if you have mounted your turntable in an audio rack.

Wide Selection of Accessory Mechanisms

There is a plentiful variety of accessory mechanisms including an independent arm-elevation mechanism, a headshell stand for conveniently storing a spare cartridge, a free stop-hinged dust cover which allows easy attachment and removal, and large-sized insulator feet.
