What is stereo?




There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Fairchild SA-12 Tonearm

The all new model SA-12 exemplifies the design for which Fairchild is famous. Examine the SA-12 . Start with the one-hole mounted base and built-in spirit level. Move next to the arm itself.... a sleek satin curve complemented by the balancing weight. Pause along the arm and note Fairchild's "Cueing" device. This controls gentle, precise setting down of stylus in groove. At arm's lenght is teh universal cartridge slide. Permits interchange of 2, 3 or 4 -pin monaural and stereo cartridges without re-wiring, tools or soldering.

The Model SA-12 Stereo Tonearm is the result of FAIRCHILD'S years of experience in the disc recording and playback industry. Excellence of formance andsimplicity of installation are combined with convenience in use. Imaginative design nears immediate fulfillment starting with the simple onehole mouting of this new arm. Lateral positioning isindicated by the built-in spirit level in the base. An exclusive "Cue-ing" device assures pinpoint accuracy of stylus placement regardless of stylus pressure. Machined aluminium parts combined with precision ball bearings keep inertia extremely low and assurereduced record and stylus wear. Spurious armresonances are eliminated by the efficiently isolated counterweight and by the balanced amss and structural rigidity inbuilt.
