The idea of an FM
only tuner is to receive broadcasts over the air that can be described as
having truly hifi performance. Only Frequency Modulation can offer this, so it
is therefore not desirable to offer AM in a budget design.

hifi Choice (february 1988) described the earlier 3140 model thus "Giving

and has added facilities, such as variable output level control.
