What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Pioneer TX-800 tuner

Pioneer AM/FM Stereo Tuner with exceptional selectivity, sensitivity and tonal characteristics, along with advance front-end circuitry.

Replete with advanced features and boasting exceptionally high performance characteristics, Pioneer's Model TX-800 AM/FM Stereo Tuner is perfect for the serious audiophile who is satisfied with nothing less than peak sensitivity and selectivity. This new unit is one of Pioneer's finest, it reflects the very latest audio technology and is an especially valuable piece of equipment when used in areas where a multitude of FM stations dominate the airwaves. Specifications, as might be expected from such a piece of quality workmanship, are first-rate. Image rejection, cross modulation rejection and spurious signal rejection are highly improved to provide the type of sensitivity so vital to quality FM reception. Then there's large linear dial scale and dual tuning meters that assure both fine selectivity and ease-of-operation.

Features

FET-equipped FM Front-End

The FM front-end, the section which directly receives the signal from the antenna - is equipped with a field effect transistor (FET), a third-generation solid state component with characteristics that go a long way towards improving the tuner's sensitivity, selectivity, and freedom from cross-modulation. Other benefits include a better Signal-to-Noise Ratio, lower intermodulation distortion and improved spurious response.

Integrated Circuits in IF Stage

The IF (Intermediate Frequency) stretch includes three integrated circuits (ICs) and three ceramic filters, factor which improve the tuner's selectivity. Also, the FM MPX decoder (the part that separates the two channels of FM stereo broadcasts) operates on the accurate time switching principle, a guarantee of efficient channel separation. To reduce noise, in FM stereo programs, a special filter switch is provided.

Easy Tuning with two meters and FM muting Switch

Accurate tuning is made easy by the two large tuning and signal strength meters. Irritating inter station noise on FM is eliminated by the FM muting switch.

FM Multipath jacks for precise antenna orientation

FM multipath reception, one of the greatest enemies of FM hi-fi sound, can be reduced or eliminated only by careful positioning of the antenna. The optimum antenna direction can be found with precision by plugging an oscilloscope (or the Pioneer stereo display unit, model SD-1000) to the tuner's special FM multipath jacks.

Fine AM reception with movable ferrite antenna

The AM ferrite core antenna can be rotated freely to obtain maximum sensitivity under all conditions. This and the tuned AM rf circuit assures clean, sharp AM reception.

Versatile auxiliary circuits

Separate output level controls are provided for AM and FM making it easy to balance their respective sound volumes. Output jacks permit direct connection of a tape deck. FM antenna connection can be made with 300 Ω  feeder or 75 Ω  coaxial cable, because two sets of terminals are provided.

Pioneer, special technical elegance

The front panel design emphasizes that unique "technological" elegance that you;ve come to expect from Pioneer. With its wooden cabinet, model TX-800 harmonizes perfectly with other Pioneer hi-fi components.
