Sony ST-JX500 tuner

Sony ST-JX500
Direct Comparator AM/FM Tuner
Sony's Top-OF-Line Quartz Frequency Synthesis tuner
Features:
Quartz frequency synthesis tuning
Direct comparator circuitry
Ten station memory presets
Multiprocess memory
Memory Scan tuning
Auto Sweep tuning

Key Selling Feature - Direct Comparator
The new digital sources are creating the possibility for superior broadcasts and the need for superior tuners. For this reason, the Sony ST-JX500 was designed to incredibly high standards. Key to the tuner's high performance is Sony's unique Direct Comparator. Conventional quartz frequency synthesis designs compare the local oscillator frequency with a reference frequency found in the audible range. This produces audible range background noise. Sony's Direct Comparator design accepts the local oscillator frequency directly. this permits the comparator frequency to be raised above the audible range - producing a starting reduction in noise.

Key Demonstration
Check that your FM reception is adequate. Demonstrate the tuner, talking the consumer through the benefits of Direct Comparator. Then make sure to demonstrate a few of the convenience features. Show how Auto Sweep takes a sample of all the available stations to indicate every station that can be received. Then, press Memory Scan (you've set all the station presets already), and let it scan through the presets, providing the customer with a four second sample of each one.

Convenience Features
Microprocessor tuning with manual "step" and automatic tuning up and down
Ten station memory presets with random assignment if AM and FM stations
Four station programming permits recording four different stations in a programmed sequence with an accessory timer
Multi-process memory stores the frequency, mono/stereo mode, and muting condition of each preset station
Memory Scan provides a four second sample of each preset station
Auto Sweep provides a four second sample of each station on the dial
Preset station indicator cards to show memorized stations
Fluorescent multi-function display indicates received frequency, muting mode, FM or AM reception, tuning mode
Five-bar, FL signal-strength indicator for optimum antenna positioning

Key Selling Feature - Quartz frequency Synthesis
Of all the tuning systems available today, none is more convenient, none more precise, none offers greater freedom from drift and distortion than the system used in the ST-JX310 - Quartz frequency synthesis. Radio stations use a quartz crystal to maintain their location on the dial. in the same way, the ST-JX310 uses quartz to tune stations in with the utmost precision. it's easy, straightforward, and accurate every time.

Key Demonstration
Explain that the tuner uses a microprocessor to synthesize each station frequency, and uses quartz precision to lock onto that frequency. There is no drift or fade, Demonstrate operation by asking the customer for his or her favourite station. Tune the station manually, then enter it into one of the tuner's memory presets. Tune in another station, then retrieve the station just preset. Point out that, once memorized, any station can be recalled at any time with a touch of a button.

Convenience Features
Microprocessor tuning with manual "step" tuning up and down the dial

JVC VN-700 amplifier

JVC VN-700
140 Watt Integrated Amplifier with 5-Zone S.E.A.
Despite its greater number of controls than other amplifiers in its class, the VN-700's front panel is not at all bulky and has a modern and pleasing aesthetic; the knobs and switches are rationally arranged, and the volume control is easily identifiable due to its size and position. The controls for the input selector, listening mode, and monitor inputs are very convenient, but the knobs for the multiple
tone control (<• SEA») are a bit too small. Its potentiometers operate in steps
to more easily set the boost or cut level. The subsonic filter is truly effective, quickly cutting the response curve below 18 Hz. The ability to engage the "SEA" equalizer even while recording and to output recordings in both directions is very useful.
The rear panel features two PHONO inputs (one of which has adjustable sensitivity and impedance), two TAPE inputs, and three auxiliary inputs, one
also with adjustable sensitivity. Essential for a system upgrade from stereo to quadraphonic are the duplicated outputs of the preamplifier section and connections for a quadraphonic decoder. The sockets are all jacks, with the addition of two DIN connectors that duplicate the tape inputs.

There are four Hitachi power transistors. The final stage is fully complementary symmetry with a power supply symmetrical with respect to ground and therefore without an output capacitor.Cooling is provided by a traditional
metal radiator. A relay disconnects the speaker connection.
The VN-700's internal layout is very tidy. At the top center is the printed circuit board for the "SEA," the long-throw input switch mounted near the rear panel, both for space reasons and to reduce the length of the wiring, which compromises the device's signal-to-noise ratio. All the connecting cables pass under the chassis' motherboard and are bundled. The construction is typical of Japanese amplifiers. The mounting brackets on which the circuit boards are mounted vertically are visible. This is an ideal solution for calibration or repairs.

Dual CS 741Q turntable

Dual 741Q The finest turntable Dual has ever made. Handsome new design provides ideal integration of form and function.
There is always a special attitude at Dual about the turntable that represents the most advanced thinking and accomplishment of Dual's designers and engineers.
The materials, the care in manufacturing and quality control must exemplify all that has made Dual precision and reliability so highly regarded throughout the world. And in every aspect of performance, this turntable must set the standard by which other fine turntables are judged. Even more, it must make a significant contribution to the art of record playback.
Now, as never before, Dual's finest turntable , the 741Q , expresses this attitude to perfection.

Hydrodynamic suspension system.
radically new design floats the tonearm, motor and platter as one unit on four cylinders, each filled with special viscous fluid. This system absorbs virtually all spurious energy originating in sound waves as well as vibrations caused by footfalls or other movements in the room.
Turnable acoustic isolator
Each isolator is adjustable to provide maximum protection from either acoustic feedback or external shock
Turntable anti-resonance filter housed in counter-balance.
Matches ULM tonearm to mass and compliance of any cartridge. Resonant amplitude can be reduced as much as 50 percent, depending on cartridge. Feedback is reduced, tracking ability improved and the sound is appreciably cleaner.

Note difference in recovery times after each turntable was subjected to vertical shock
Highly-respected European turntable considered virtually immune to vibration
Well-known Japanese turntable with damped sub-chassis
Dual turntable damped by Hydrodynamic system and turntable acoustic isolators.
New flush-mount dust cover.
Unique hinge design allows cover to be opened and closed without extending beyond rear of turntable. This allows the unit to be positioned close to rear wall. Also adjustable hinge tension holds cover open at any angle.
Quartz PLL direct drive with LED speed read-outs.
Exact pitch-control deviations from standard speeds are shown throughout 12 percent range. Pitch-control settings remain in memory for comparisons with quartz-controlled 33 rpm and 45 rpm speeds.

DBX 110 control

 DBX 110 - Subharmonic Synthesizer
The Model 110 is a unique product that can solve one frequency response problem common to all stereo systems. Right now, your system can't produce bass frequencies much below 50 Hz, simply because that's the limit of most records, tapes and FM signals. That means you don't get the deepest bass notes, the kind you feel as well as hear. The Model 110 corrects that problem. Technically, what the 110 does is easily understood. It samples the low frequency fundamentals of your music. Then it passes these signals through while simultaneously reproducing them a full octave lower. both signals are then mixed back in at relative levels that you control.
Musically, what the 110 does is extraordinary. it re-creates the natural subharmonics of the original sound, making your room vibrate with a depth of bass you've never heard before - or felt - except in a live performance.
