FM 65 dB Selectivity
Selecting the station you want in FM-crowded urban areas is a growing problem in tuners not built for the job. The JT-V31 however has a new 4-resonator type single-unit ceramic filter to help achieve an impressive 65 dB selectivity without degrading other important specifications.

Precision Built FM Frontend
A dependable frequency linear tuning capacitor in the FM frontend increases sensitivity to distant or weak stations and affords high tuning precision.

FM Stereo PLL Circuit
The newly developed PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) circuit in an IC form delivers outstanding stereo separation over an IC form delivers outstanding stereo separation over a wide frequency range with more reliability and stability than conventional multiplex (MPX) circuits. Independent left/right-channel low-pass filters eliminate crosstalk for more precise sound image location.

FM/AM Tuning Ease
The extra long (240 mm ) dial is frequency linear for FM and is designed scientifically for easiest reading in actual use. The mechanism has a high-inertia flywheel and stretch-free "radial cord" cables to maintain high precision operation in all types of environment.

Twin Tuning Meters
The signal strength meter (FM an AM) at the left side of the meter window always responds in linear proportion to the strengths of incoming signals without overloading. Its circuit is the integral-linear type and is never :fooled" (saturated). The FM tuning meter at the right is equally well built, providing visual confirmation of the tuning of an FM signal to the point where distortion is minimal and stereo separation best.

Sound Effect Amplifier (S.E.A,)
The Sound Effect AMplifier is a feature unique to JVC which gives you more control over tone than has ever before been possible. it was never found outside professional recording studios before JVC incorporated it in their amplifiers and receivers. The advantages of the S.E.A. system are:
It gives the listener complete control of the tone throughout the entire frequency range.
By adjusting the controls entirely new sounds can be created
Tone can be adjusted to compensate for variations in the transmission system; recording method , type of music, characteristics of your stereo system and the acoustic properties of your room.
Unlike other tone control systems which have only a bass and treble control, the S.E.A. has seven controls. Each of these controls makes it possible to vary the response in a different frequency range. S.E.A. gives a steeper gradient at both the high and low frequency end of the response curve than the conventional system which is limited to 6 dB/oct. The outstanding feature is S.E.A.'s handling of the midrange frequencies. the conventional tone control system controls only the high and low ranges whereas S.E.A. extends this control to cover the whole frequency range.

Tannoy Westminster
The Tannoy Westminster presents the latest in Dual Concentric technology combined with traditional standards of construction and finish, and is a worthy successor to the renowed tannoy Autograph.
A 15" Dual Concentric drive unit is coupled to a straight axis horn at the front and to a long folded horn at the rear. The advantages of the system are as follows; Low frequencies, i.e. below 300 Hz are reproduced by a much larger radiating wavefront loudspeakers. the quality of low frequencies as perceived by a listener are more realistic since low frequency sound radiations in musical instruments, etc., are also generated by large radiating wavefronts. For example, timpani, contrabass, organ pipes (32 ft. 16 ft.) producing low frequencies naturally, all have a basic wavefront generating area much larger than even a 15-inch (380 mm) direct radiating loudspeaker system. The radiating area of the rear folded horn in the Westminster loudspeaker is over 2,5 times that of a 15 inch loudspeaker and therefore much more comparable to the original instruments. The quality of low frequency reproduction is therefore improved. The efficiency of the system, used in the Westminster is approximately 8 dB greater than conventional direct radiating systems using a 15-inch drive unit. A fundamental consequence of the increase in efficiency is a lower distortion content when operated at normal domestic sound levels. A further consequence of high efficiency is of course that the power amplifier is under much less stress when reproducing high peak transient sound levels typical of wide dynamic range digital recordings. The air load matching between drive unit and listening environment is improved by the use of compound horn techniques, therefore the drive unit is much less highly stressed in reproducing peak transient levels. The thermal dissipation in the voice coil is reduced resulting in a more linear conversion of quiet and loud passages, i.e., the true dynamic range of the programme material is retained.


Using conventional separate bass and treble units with a rear folded horn would result in an extremely large and cumbersome cabinet. The tannoy Dual Concentric drive unit has separate high and low frequency drivers within a common chassis. Integration of the drive unit and horn loading systems with the cabinet is therefore more effective and the physical size of the cabinet reduced.
In the Dual Concentric drive unit a single chassis carries both a direct radiating low frequency driver and, mounted behind and on the same axis, an HF compression driver.
When used in the Westminster with a time compensated crossover network, a single point sound source is provided for frequencies from which the listener can re-create stereo images. The result is a much clearer, more accurate stereophonic effect. Lowe frequencies which do not affect stereo imagery are reproduced through the rear folded horn.
The resulting sound quality available from the Westminster produces a sense of reality and presence which is simply not provided by any more conventional loudspeaker system.
The finishing touch to this fine loudspeaker is provided by the superbly finished cabinet, combining solid walnut mouldings and real walnut veneers with discrete oatmeal grille cloth. The centre grille is removable with a key for access to the HF response controls.

 Thorens BTD-12S Professional Tone Arm with exclusive cueing control for lowering and raising arm The Thorens BTD-12S tone arm is a classic example of Swiss craftsmanship. Designed for lowest possible inertia and friction, in both horizontal and vertical planes, the BTD-12S is ideal for pickup cartridges of the highest lateral and vertical compliance. The low inertia minimizes force on the stylus from warped and off-center records, assures positive contact between stylus and record groove, and reduces distortion as well as record and stylus wear to a minimum. Despite its very compact size,, the BTD-12S has less tracking error than many 16" arms (only 0,5(o) per inch). Special pivot design eliminates another source of distortion found in ordinary arms by keeping stylus perpendicular to the record at all times. The knob adjustment for stylus force (calibrated in grams) and the record-saving, stylus-saving are unequaled for convenience.

Outstanding Features
Cueing Device - A built-in precision cueing device raises and lowers the arm over the record when a knob is turned. When lifted, the arm is given a slight braking action to keep the stylus over the groove. When lowered, the arm is completely free of any interference from the cueing device.
Tracking Error - Only 0,5(o)/inch maximum with optimum stylus overhang
Bearings - Precision ball bearings on both axes reduce friction (lateral and vertical) to the order of 1/10 gram
Exclusive Pivot Design -  Ideally, the stylus axis a should remain in a vertical plane, defined by the stylus and the tangent to the record groove, for all up-and-down movements of the arm. In ordinary arms, this is impossible because the axis of the bearing for up-and-down motion is set at right angles to the straight part of the arm. This causes the ordinary arm to "cant" or lean the stylus to one side when in any position other than perfectly horizontal. The BTD-12S eliminates this source of distortion by setting the bearing at an angle to the straight part of the arm. The stylus in the BTD-12S thus never leans to either side for any height adjustment, any warped record.
Balancing -  With stylus force adjustment set to "0", the counterweight will balance the arm, with a 5-19 gram ( ,18 - ,67 oz.) cartridge installed, in both horizontal and vertical planes. Then, since stylus force is applied by a spring at any other setting of the adjustment, the arm remains in balance and is insensitive to out-of-level tables or floor vibrations
Stylus Force Adjustment - Calibrated in grams on a large, engraved scale for 2 to 8 grams with zero position for balancing.
Low-Frequency Resonance - Below audible range. Damping material isolates counterweight to prevent other undesirable resonance in audible range.
Plug-in Shell - AN aluminum plug-in shell accommodates any standard cartridge and comes with mounting hardware. A 4-pin (plus ground) connector provides electrical connections. A screw-secured slide on the shell permits easy, precise adjustment of stylus overhang.
Cables - Two shielded cables 39" (one meter) long, with standard phono connectors, and a separate ground wire are supplied. No soldering is necessary.
