What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Marantz Imperial 9 speakers

Mirror imaging is a unique Marantz attraction not found elsewhere. It is achieved by placing the mid-range and tweeter array of both speaker systems in a mirrored position (either both inside or outside of the speaker). By doing this, the stereo image and overall dispersion is exactly symmetrical giving you the most precise stereo sound and separation possible. The Imperial 9 and 8 may be used in the vertical or horizontal position. And mirror imaging is made easy, since the Imperial 8 is designed with a rotatable array, and the Imperial 9 is designed symmetrically. Mirror imaging, a sound feature that speaks for itself.

Better Sound in the Home

The same qualities that make JBL monitors the choice of studios make JBL Radiance Series loudspeakers a great choice for your home. Radiance offers strong bass, plenty of "presence" and excellent high frequency response.

Radiance loudspeakers are efficient. A receiver with as little as 10 watts per channel will drive any Radiance Series model to comfortable listening levels. Yet Radiance speakers are rugged enough to be used with receivers or amplifiers delivering up to 200 watts per channel , and they can reach the listening levels demanded for studio-quality sound.

We designed each of the transducers specifically for the Radiance Series, using advanced engineering techniques. Enclosure volumes were precisely calculated, and new dividing networks were developed to blend the outputs of the drivers smoothly at the transition frequencies. Because Radiance loudspeakers are ultimately meant to be heard by people rather than test instruments, the final decisions were made by our listening panels.

The Heritage of the Recording Studio

Recording professionals demand the best equipment. Their studio monitors must meet the highest standards of accuracy, controlled dispersion, efficiency, and durability. That's why professionals choose JBL.

In 1978, for instance, 35 of the top 50 albums were recorded, mixed, or mastered on JBL loudspeakers, according to a Recording Institute of America survey.

Innovative Styling

Radiance Series loudspeakers follow in the JBL tradition of visual as well as acoustical excellence. With the grille on, the speakers present a simple yet elegant appearance that fits harmoniously into any room. With the grille off, the reflective finish of the baffle can be as subtle or spectacular as you want. The enclosure finish is a furniture-grade walnut-grained vinyl that resists stains and spills.

JBL 502VX speakers

Every step in the design and construction of the JBL Radiance Series, from the initial computer calculations to the final packing, is done at our own Northridge, California headquarters. JBL have complete manufacturing facilities for transducers and furniture, an extensively equipped engineering laboratory, and a complete chemical laboratory. Much of our tooling was designed and built especially by us because none was available that met our specifications.

JBL have more test equipment devoted exclusively to quality control that most speaker companies have in their entire engineering departments. Each finished product must measure up to a laboratory standard by actual test before it can be packed. At JBL we control all the variables, so we don't have to compromise our design goals.
