What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Technics SL-1950 turntable

Technics SL-1950
Introducing Technics SL-1950. the changer that outperforms all of our competitors' changers and many of their high-prieced manuals. Because it's the changer with the Technics direct-drive system. The system radio stations use and discos abuse.
The SL-1950 gives you performance comparable to our direct-drive manuals. Like inaudible wow and flutter at 0,03% WRMS. Undetectable rumble at -70 dB (DIN B) and a 321 element one-chip IC that autamatically stabilizes turntable speed.
To take advantage of all that accuracy, the SL-1950 features a sensitive, statically balanced S-shaped tonearm.
But even though the SL-1950 performs like a manual, it's still a changer. It handles up  to 6 records automatically. And has a memory system that allows repeated or continuous paly in both the single-play and changer modes.
And that's not all. The SL-1950 also has oil-damped cueing. Anti-skating control. Illuminated stroboscope . Pitch controls variable by 10%. Feedback-insulated legs. A hinged, detachable dust cover. And an anti-resonant integral base.
The SL-1950 - The changer you should look at even if you're looking for a manual.

High peformance automatic turntable system
The "mem0-gram" function unique to technics which enables you to enjoy manual play, auto-start, auto-return, auto-stop, repeated performance from 1 to 6 times and continuously performance, and , in addition, multiple play, capable of playing 1 to 6 records continuously. All these features will make your "audio life" happier.
Integral rotor-platter structire
First to introduce the direct-drive system for turntables, Technics has now taken this remarkable advance one step further with the development of the integral Rotor-Platter structure. This latest technics breakthrough combines the turntable platter and the rotor of the motor in one piece, reducing the number of moving parts to just one, to further simplfy turntable construction and at the same time raise performance standards.  Simplified design and construction make possible more precise and accurate speed, greater reliability, and more attractive styling; and most important, measurable performance that is unegualled among turntables with other drive systems.

Dependable one chip IC.
The direct-drive motor of the SL-1950 is controlled by a "one-chip" IC which performs the functions of up to 321 individual transistor, diode and resistor elements. With this IC brain, the motor control circuit supplies precisely the correct amount of drive current to the motor to maintain the proper speed under all conditions.
This "one-chip" control system contains a number of refinements which assure unvarying rotational speed,, free from "tag" in corrective response. Rotation stability is unaffected by changes in temperature or long playing times, and the IC permits quick response to sudden transient in load.
Hi-fidelity performance with rumble (Signal-to-Noise ratio) of -70 db  (DIN45539B), wow and flutter of 0,03% (WRMS)
The ultra-low speed brushless Dc motor employed in this unit has an extremely low power consumption of about 0,1W. The high performance of the Direct Drive motor is due to the newly developed heavy weignt base and to the utilization of the one chip IC of the B.FG (back Electromotive Force Frequency Generator}  system.
