What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Akai AA-1010 receiver

In your hi-fi home system, the amplifier's job is to give your power and control of sound. The tuner is there to provide you with the best possible means of receiving radio signals. And a receiver is quite simply an amplifier and tuner combined into one.

The Akai AA-1010 packs a powerful punch of 14 watts per channel RMS at 8 ohms, both channels driven. Bandwidth runs from 40 to 20,000 kHz with no more than 0,8% total harmonic distortion. At the 1 kHz point, the power is at least 16 watts per channel into 8 ohms, both channels driven. So the specified power rating is a minimum figure.

The tuner sensitivity is, for this class of machine, a remarkable 2,0 µV. there's a Phase-Lock-Loop circuit in the FM Multiplex section to produce complete stability with separation better than 40 dB. The styling is smart professional-looking. There's the large precision balanced heavy-weight flywheel for fast and accurate tuning.

There's an FM/AM tuning meter. An FM stereo lamp. There's an input selector switch for AM/FM/Phono/Aux. A stereo/mono mode selector switch. A Tape Monitor On/Off switch. The Loudness control switch boosts the high and low frequency signals for perfect subjective sound balance at low volume. The power On/Off switch also controls speaker selection: A/OFF/B/A+B. Separate bass and treble tone control knobs. The volume control knob. A stereo headphone output jack. And round the back is a highly sensitive AM ferrite bar antenna.
