What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Magneplanar MG-II loudspeakers

We'd like to have a word with you. It's about Magneplanar loudspeakers. The word is "revolutionary". Revolutionary design concept; revolutionary sound reproduction, revolutionary beauty. In fact the Magneplanar system is patented because of the unique principles on which it operates. The Speaker are designed to be seen and not heard. So if you're listening to music, all you hear is music, not annoying vibrations from speaker cabinets and cavities. The first time you see Magneplanars you'll know something new is going on. They look like beautiful decorator screens. Or handsome room dividers. We know you've heard the word "revolutionary" before. But you've never heard anything like Magneplanars before.

What is Magneplanar?

The Magneplanar loudspeakers is a totally new type of loudspeaker. It is neither a cone type speaker, nor is it an electrostatic. The actual speaker itself is only about 1/8th inch thick. Its construction consist of a large area (planar) permanent magnetic field with a very thin film diaphragm stretched over it. The audio current is carried by conductors which are attached to the diaphragm in a zig-zag fashion.

As the audio current passes through the conductors, the interaction between the magnetic field around the conductors and the permanent planar magnetic field under them causes the entire diaphragm to pulsate. This creates sound waves in the air which is the sound your hear.

A few of the important characteristics of Magneplanars

Purely resistive impedance for ideal amplifier loading

Puts out same sound front and back (bi-polar radiator)

No cavity or cabinet wall resonance to colour sound.

Superior transient response throughout entire audio range due to low mass of diaphragm

Distortion level far below other loudspeakers because of complete control of diaphragm

Can be placed to look more like part of furnishings than a loudspeaker

56" long, 1-1/2" wide tweeter section provides horizontal sound dispersion previously unattainable

Fantastic power handling capability

Large radiating area provides width and height and depth of sound only equalled by live performances

The bi-polar radiation of Magneplanas provides a means of optimizing stereophonic and quadraphonic sound imaging.
