Kyocera Model D-801 Cassette Deck Incorporating Dual Capstan 3-motor tape Transport mechanism with Dolby B and C Noise Reduction
With the perfectionist in Mind Cybernet technology has gone all out to produce a cassette deck that will make even the most particular tape enthuiast stop and wonder.
In a nutshell, Cybernet's D-801 has been designed to improve dynamic characteristics. Briefly, although values of static characteristics of a cassette deck (such as signal-to-noise ratio, Wow and Flutter) have almost reached the measurable limit, those characteristics which may not be reflected on actual spec values but which affect audible sound differences must be improved. For this reason, we have decided to use the double capstan two head concept which contributes to meaningful areas of operation, such as Wow and Flutter, frequency response and appropriate head to tape pressure.
FET Amplifier
Because no cassette deck is better than its amplifier, Cybernet uses FET amps in the input stages for superb record / playback head characteristics. Signal-to-Noise-Ratio and excellent Frequency Response are improved by direct coupling of the R/P head amp FET to the first stage amp FET.
The Drive for Excellence
To insure constant speed drive and least possible Wow & Flutter, the D-801 uses a 2-capstan drive. This provides individual capstans and pinch-rollers for both the take-up and feed reels, thus insuring the proper tape also runs smoothly and with optimum tape tension, virtually eliminating external shock modulating noise which sometimes causes tape vibration while in play or record mode.
The capstans are driven directly by a brushless frequency generated servo motor. because of this motor driving only the capstans, better and uniform torque is achieved resulting in improved Wow & Flutter and tape speed accuracy.
A second DC governorless motor is used to drive both the take-up and feed reels, while a similar third motor gently positions the record/playback head against the tape surface. This innovative approach results in long lasting head-to-tape positioning accuracy and maximizes proper head azimuth alignment.
The tape transport incorporates two electromagnetic brakes, one for feed and the other for take-up reel rewind. This super braking action protects the tape from stress damage, breaksge or distortion when stopping in the fast forward or rewind mode.
Dolby B and C Noise Reduction
While many audiophiles have been using the Dolby B system, Cybernet now has incorporated a Dolby C system for greater dynamic range and frequency response.
Now, with Cybernet's Kyocera Model D-801 Cassette Deck, new superior recordings can be made.
Basically, the Dolby B system reaches greatest effectiveness above 4 kHz, reducing noise by about 10 dB. Dolby C reaches effectiveness from 1 kHz and above and provides up to 20 dB of NR. By having both systems built into the Model D-801 Deck, Cybernet lets the user make the choice.
APMR Feature
Automatic Program Mute Recording is a system built into the D-801 providing 5-second unrecorded portions in the tape when in record mode. In playback these gaps are useful for locating the beginning or the end of the recorded segments. The 5-second unrecorded gaps are utilized by the auto search feature to stop at the beginning of the program continues for five seconds and automatically advances to the next program unless the play button is activated in order to stop auto search.
Versatility and Convenience
In addition to its feather-touch pushbutton mechanism, automatic memory functions are included for memory stop, auto stop, auto play and auto repeat. Other functions included are shutoff at end of playback, record, fast forward and rewind modes. Complementing these features is an electronic 4-digit counter for elapsed time, remaining time and stopwatch.
Tape selection, bias and equalization are provided for all current tape types including metal. In addition, fine adjustment provides optimum performance from the selected tape brand.
Performance is assured by Cybernet's use of a Sendust alloy rewind/playback head. This meets the needed demand for top=notch performance with to-day's metal tape. A built-in 400 Hz calibration tone enables proper adjustment of record/playback levels for each channel.
Other convenience features include LED indicators for function modes, L/R channel peak levels, record level balance and output controls, illuminated cassette compartment with viscous damped cassette door and headphone jacks for private listening, as well as record peak level hold.
