What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Infinity 2000 A (1971)

For the first time it is possible to reproduce the full grandeur of the symphony orchestra without the annoying distortions and boxiness that plague all bookshelf-size speaker systems. This break-through in sound reproduction at a modest cost and size is accomplished by means of all new design features which are a direct outgrowth of the technology and research formulated for the peerless Servo-Statik I System.

Tweeters

The use of Infinity Systems unique ultra-low mass electrostatic strip tweeters is one of the key design features of the 2000A. The frequency response of the tweeters is an unprecedented 1,800 to 30,000 Hz, ±2dB at distortion levels less than 0,5%. These tweeter elements are placed in a specially designed cavity which permits front and rear radiations of all frequencies above 1800 Hz. This reflection/direct radiation ratio most closely simulates the instruments of the orchestra themselves and imparts to the listening quality the airiness and the realism that has been missing from loudspeakers heretofore. This feature gives a largeness of size to the sound and dispersion of the upper frequencies not possible even in the largest conventional or full-range electrostatic speakers.

Midrange

The midrange frequencies are covered by a unique, plasticized, fou inch high flux density driver designed for excellent dispersion and high-power handling capacity. Additionally, the cone is ultra-light which allows constant energy output and eliminates teh boxiness which characterizes all other systems of this size and price. The high flux density combined with the very light cone gives the full-bodied and articulated mid-frequency sound radiation formerly associated with the electrostatic transducer.

Bass

The bass system uses an all-new resistive damping technique and "terminated line" effect for excellent transient response, deep bass response and renders it free on the familiar hangover exemplified in the acoustic suspension designs. This system has a controlled impedance curve which does not deviate from the nominal value (4 ohms) more than 0%, which implies that the speaker is essientially perfectly damped. Several useful by products of this system presten themselves:

1 - near constant impedence throughout the bass region for exceptional power utilization from the driving amplifier

2 - extended frequency response due to the "velocity retardation" of the rear wave emerging from a resistively damped opening in the enclosure resulting in phase addition throughout the bass frequency band

3 - the bass being a "terminated line" system has the characteristic that bass frequencies emitted in the rear direction by the woofer do not oscillate up and down the enclosure to blur bass response

4 - the system is designed to have a flat power response in the bass region and therefore does not have the mid-bass peak designed into most "bookshelf" size systems in order to compensate for the apparent bass loss when elevated off the floor> The Infinity 2000A has the tremendous room shaking bass response without this artificial blirring effect.

Crossover

The model 2000A crossover is probably the most unsual and advanced in the industry. The crossover was designed while working into the trancducers themselves with full instrumentation at the outputs. Thus, the eklectrical network/trasducer is treated as a system rather than calculated as separate entites. The entire network is set so that each of the transducers, in their frequency range, have constant energy output and are matched with perfect phase linearity at crossover. Electrical crossovers are staggered between transducers so that overlap is achieved This is one of the reasons why the Infinity 2000A has an amazing homogeneous quality - all of the elements blend together as one.
