What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Pioneer CT-5 cassette deck

Designed for Easy Operation

The CT-5 is designed for utmost ease of operation and control. Its IC logic-controlled tape transport provides touch operation and direct change of modes. The ALC - Automatic Level Control - may be switched in for fuss-free wide-dynamic-range recording. Music Search lets you find the song you want to hear easily.

The tape transport of the CT-5 is controlled by a logic circuit contained in a specially programmed IC . It determines the sequence in which "events" happen. To set the deck in the appropriate button. And we mean touch, because these are all light-touch mode buttons.

The record/play and erase heads are specially designed to match the exacting requirements of metal tape. Sendust reinforced permalloy is used for the former because of its excellent wear characteristics (over 1,000 abrasive hours of use), its resistance to saturation and its high reliability. The latter is a double-gap ferrite type, especially chosen for its high saturation magnetic flux density and high efficiency.

The bulit-in Dolby-C noise reduction system lets you enjoy truly dynamic musical reproduction, free of audible hiss. A switchable MPX (Multiplex) filter eliminates carrier leakage from a faulty tuner so that noise reduction is achieved correctly. Of note to convenience-oriented recordists are ALC and Music Search. ALC automatically adjust an incoming signal to its optimum level during recording so that on playback the program sounds dynamically full and free of objectionable distortion. If desired, the circuit may be switched out and the correct recording level manually set with assistance from the 6-LED bar-graph level display (one per channel). Music Search is a convenient feature that lets you easily locate the beginning of the program you 're presently listening to or the beginning of the next program.

Borrowed from the more expensive models, are such features as Auto Tape Selector, one-Touch recording and timer-assisted recording/playback.
