Leak 3050 loudspeakers

The new Leak Time Delay Compensated loudspeakers series is the result of an intensive research program, which attempted to isolate, measure and evaluate the audible effects of all known loudspeaker distortions. The research undertaken evaluated four key areas of performance:

Intermodulation distortion

Delayed resonance

Time distortion doppler distortion

From the data accumulated, Leak were able to establish minimum levels of audibility for each type of distortion and then design a loudspeaker whose distortions are unquestionably below these figures. The result is the 3000 series of Leak time delay compensated loudspeakers.

Time Delay Compensation

In conventional loudspeakers all drive units are mounted on a flat baffle which means a time delay occurs between the sound radiated from the woofer and that radiated from the treble unit. The stepped baffle on the 3000 series allows for the physical position of the drive units to be changed in order to compensate for time delay differences. This gives the sound an added depth and realism.

Bass - Midrange

The research work on doppler distortion enabled the use of combined bass - midrange drive units in the 3020; 3030, and 3050 models,  thus making unnecessary the extra band-pass filter normally associated with the midrange unit. The result is a significant improvement in the realism of this part of the audio spectrum. The 3030 and 3050 models have two combined bass - midrange units which allow them to achieve the bass reproduction of much larger units.
