What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Kenwood KX-700 cassette deck

Stereo cassette deck with Dolby noise reduction system

A state-of-the-art. Cassette deck with reel-to-reel quality featuring

Luxurious in every respect, the KX-700 combines reel-to-reel quality with cassette convenience. Its patented Dolby Noise Reduction System (Type B) virtually eliminates high frequency background noise without affecting high frequency signals. The superferrite record-and-play head, with its precision micro-gap, utilizes bias frequencies to optimum advantage for top quality reproduction, and a three-way Tape Selector permits a choice of the correct bias for Regular, Low Noise or Chromium Dioxide tapes. A measure of the unit's fine performance is indicated by a few of its excellent specs.

Special features

Patented Dolby Noise Reduction System - will filter out high frequency background noises (hiss sounds) inherent in the recording process, or will play back pre-recorded Dolbyized tapes with an almost silent background, improving Signal-to-Noise Ratio by approximately 10 dB for all tape types.

Super-Ferrite Core head - is made of high density and extremely hard ferrite magnetic material to provide exceptional long life. The material permits the fabrication of an extremely narrow, precise head gap that allows bias frequencies to be utilized to optimum advantage in the recording and reproduction of high frequency sounds. The unit also incorporates an erase head.

Three-Way Tape Selection Push-Button Switch - permits a choice of the correct bias frequency for Regular, Low Noise or Chromium Dioxide Tapes, providing maximum flexibility in achieving the finest sound reproduction from each tape type.

Slide Lever Volume Controls - two separate left and right slide Lever Controls for Record and Play offer easy accurate level adjustment.

Two Large VU Meters - one for each channel are easy to read for accurate level check

Three Digit Counter - with re-set button provides tape location at a glance

Piano Key Controls - provide feather-touch control for Eject; Stop; Reverse; Play, Fast Forward, Record and Pause. The Pause function is particularly convenient for tape editing

Input/Output Terminals - provide maximum convenience, with 2 Microphone jacks, Phone jack for 8 Ω  stereo headphones; DIN connector, and Line-IN/Line-Out Terminals.

Low-Distortion, High S/N Preamp - use of 2 FETs in the first stage of preamplification and 14 silicon transistors having low noise, high gain characteristics assure low distortion and a high Signal-to-Noise Ratio.

Automatic Stop - at tape's end in any mode recording, playback fast forward, or reverse, the KX-700 will automatically stop, with the pinch roller lifted away from the capstan to prevent any capstan displacement.
