New, Improved Tonearm
The nine-inch Thorens TP-11 tonearm has been specially designed for the TD-165C. made of low-mass aluminum and suspended in pin-and-cup bearings, it virtually eliminates tracking error and lateral drag. its micro pivot assembly assures the highest flexibility in the horizontal and vertical planes.
Tonearm balance and Stylus Tracking Force Adjustment
A precision assembly permits exact adjustments of tracking force, in one-half gram increments to accommodate cartridges that track as low as 0,5 gram. the stylus sits perfectly in the groove for optimum signal pickup and absolute minimum wear. Tracking error is less than 0,15% cm of radius.
Lightweight magnesium Plug-in Shell
Designed to match the finest cartridges, the lightweight shell plugs in and out easily to facilitate switching cartridges for special applications, 4-channel, or for personal taste.
Precision Cueing
A cue/pause control is conveniently located in front of the platter. Just slide the tonearm to the desired groove or band and turn the cueing knob to lower the stylus gently into the groove. When rotated in the opposite direction, the knob raises the tonearm. The system is viscous damped to prevent damage to both the stylus and the record.
Unique Double 16-pole Synchronous Motor
A miniature power unit, it synchronizes its speed with accuracy better than +_0,1%, by locking on to the 60 Hz frequency of the power line. Operating at extremely low speed of 450 rpm, vibration is completely minimized. The long, resilient belt drive acts as a filter to eliminate rumble transfer from the motor pulley to the platter's large inner flywheel.
Precision Balanced Turntable
The non-ferrous, anti-magnetic 6,6 lb, 12-inch platter is internally contoured, with its weight precisely distributed. this provides maximum flywheel action which absorbs speed variations, thus eliminating wow and flutter.
Unified Suspension System
The tonearm mount and the platter assembly are united on a single suspension unit. They are completely isolated from the motor. This unique split level design isolates the suspended chassis from the motor board and minimizes sensitivity to acoustic feedback and external vibration.
Anti-skate Control
Thorens has engineered a precision system to counteract the tonearm's natural tendency to swing toward the center of the record. By maintaining the stylus dead center between the walls of the grooves, record life is extended, distortion is eliminated and there's maximum stereo separation.
