What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Infinity Qa speakers

The new Qa, our lowest priced speaker, has actually been compared to our formidable (and formidably expensive) Quantum Line Source.

Small wonder, Qa was conceived with much of the same advanced technology and all of the same commitment to excellence that gave birth to the QLS. In both speakers you'll find our exclusive EMIT electromagnetic induction tweeter, originally developed for the QLS, EMIT achieves a super auditory 32,000 Hz with extraordinary power and wide dispersion. Our technologically advanced Q-woofer delivers a tight, clean rock-solid 42 Hz at the bottom.

Yet Qa can be driven with as little as 15 or as much as 150 watts per channel (wherever you're at with amp power, Qa is there , too)

The proof is in the listening, qa is everything you'd expect from Infinity.

The Landmark EMIT

EMIT - Infinity's exclusive new electromagnetic induction tweeter is a significant advance in the technology of high frequency transducers. You'll find EMIT in our Quantum Line Source. You'll also find it in Qa.

The magnetic analogue of an electrostatics - as well as to cone and dome drivers. EMIT radiates sound from an ultra-thin and light plastic film diaphragm. Because it is driven over all of its effective radiating area, it is always controlled by the input signal. And because it is lightweight, it can be controlled accurately and precisely, providing a smooth, extended frequency response and excellent transients.

Performance of cone and dome drivers, on the other hand, is inherently limited by their technology.

Driven locally by a voice coil, accurate control of the radiating area is limited by the cone/diaphragm stiffness, as well as by its weight. Cones and domes therefore are limited in their transient response and in their ability to effectively couple to the air. These limitations are most evident at high frequencies.

EMIT, with a low-mass diaphragm driven over its entire area by powerful magnets of rare-earth Samarium Cobalt, achieves superior levels of transient response and accuracy.

Musically, this translates into a clarity and transparency, a filigree-detailing of mid and high frequencies that is unsurpassed by any other driver in the world.

EMIT is sound years ahead of other drivers in other ways as well. Its phenomenal power capacity derives from several EMIT ingredients; its impedance, which is almost pure resistance, allowing the amplifier to drive it more easily; a unique "voice-coil" which is etched directly onto the surface of the diaphragm, allowing efficient heat dispersion - all of these result in a speaker that can reproduce exceptionally high sound levels.

Wide dispersion is another Emit benefit. Its one-half-inch wide radiating source achieves wide horizontal dispersion through the highest audible frequencies.

As you can hear for yourself, EMIT gives Qa a combination of subtle delicacy, sledgehammer power capacity and dispersion never attained by either electrostatics or by conventional dome drivers.

Our Q-woofer

You'll find advanced Infinity technology in our Q-woofer as well. A specially-formulated QX material damps out spurious resonances that cause coloration in other cone drivers. Our low-mass, high-excursion Q-woofer delivers tight, extended and startlingly accurate bass as well as extraordinary midrange - the kind of midrange associated with 3 and 4-way systems.

A heavy butyl surround couples its mass progressively to that of our light weight Q-woofer cone ay low frequencies. This result in superior transient performance in the upper part of the woofer's range without sacrifice of low frequency response.

A unique voice-coil former, or bobbin, in the woofer is of phosphor bronze. Like the aluminum traditionally used in voice-coil formers, this metal aids in heat dissipation; but it avoids the reverse-eddy currents that slow down rise-time.

Therefore the rise-time of our Q-woofer is extremely fast, bass transient response is phenomenally accurate.

Enough about means

Listen to the end result. Test Qa in an Infinity dealer's showroom against the toughest musical parameters; the breadth and sweep of the Horenstein Mahler Third on Nonesuch, the slashing brass of McConnell on Umbrella, the introspection of Almeida on Crystal Clear, the transparency and three-dimensional depth of Randy Sharp on Nautilus.

Then listen to your own favorite and familiar records through Qa. We guarantee you'll be hearing them for the first time.

About Power and Positioning

The Qa was designed to be suitable for low-powered amplifiers. Yet if you have a $10,000 system you'll find that Qa can handle your highly-powered amp - to and beyond any comfortable living-room listening level. Put a pair of Qa's in your study as second speakers (then don't be surprised when you start spending more time in your study.)

A word about placement. Don't hem in the Qa between bookshelves, but  do raise it off the floor. Our optional pedestals do the job easily and optimally - about twelve inches worth. And when you place these speakers a couple of feet away from the well, remarkable things happen;

A sense of spaciousness will "appear" around the musicians; all frequencies will "open up" with a very real sense of depth; no voices or instruments will be thrust unnaturally forward from the speakers or made unnaturally larger than reality - but those musicians farther away during the original performance will be perceived as farther from the listener.

This spatial imagery and total musical honesty is characteristic of our most expensive Infinity speakers; and now, of our least expensive speakers as well.

In fact, the Qa has everything you'd expect from Infinity.
